Our Team is in Love with This Planet

Wood sustains us, but do we sustain it? At Lopez Contracting, we take that question seriously. Our team prioritizes ethical lumber sourcing on Vancouver Island, ensuring our supply chain reflects responsibility through local partnerships with arborist businesses.

Much of our lumber comes from wood that would otherwise become waste. We partner with small local arborist operations who remove trees from residential properties, parks, and municipal rights-of-way. The wood arrives freshly milled and green — still containing moisture and sap that causes warping without proper treatment.

That's where our kiln facilities come in. Our state-of-the-art kilns in downtown Victoria dramatically accelerate the wood seasoning process. What traditionally requires a year or more through air seasoning alone, our technology accomplishes in approximately one month. Once wood reaches interior-grade quality, it's ready for projects ranging from fine furniture to structural framing.

Our guiding principle draws inspiration from ancient Roman architect Vitruvius, who emphasized three essential qualities for craftsmanship: Firmitas — structural soundness. Utilitas — functionality. Venustas — beautiful proportions. This framework ensures our products are sturdy, practical, and aesthetically pleasing while remaining affordable.

That's the Triple Crown Philosophy. Every piece of lumber we source, every slab we dry, every joint we cut — it all has to meet those three standards. If it doesn't, we haven't done our job.
